Glendale Middle School, Year 5 Making Felt Hangings for the Cheviot Centre They drew pictures to represent what they had learnt about the Cheviot shepherds of the past. Their ideas were to be incorporated into 4 hangings, each one representing a season. They started by making a wool picture from their drawing. They laid down the outline, and then in filled with coloured wools. With the help of Eve Studd they dyed some local fleeces using plants, so they had a good selection of coloured wools to choose from. Some Year 6 helped with this. They laid out lots of coloured wool fibres to create the landscape in each of the seasons. Lots of hot soapy water was sprinkled onto the wool, and then it was rolled up ready for felting. The felting was fun. They had to check to see when it was ready. |
