Sheep Tales began in 2011 as a Heritage Lottery funded project to create a permanent archive of shepherding memories gathered from North Northumberland. The initial project also aimed to support and promote contemporary wool related artisans, crafts and products from the region.
In November 2014 Sheep Tales became a constituted group; officially a small, non registered charity and we formed a committee. With support from Northumberland National Park it is our mission to support and promote wool related crafts and artisans in Northumberland and the Borders. Also to continue to build the project archive, recording the rich heritage of wool related industries and shepherding in the region. |
To this end we continue to add to the existing archive, drawing from memories, photos, stories, music, traditional craft skills and local archives, in order to create a rich visual and oral record for present and future generations.
We also continue to work with local communities and schools in North Northumberland and to provide events, demonstrations and workshops celebrating and promoting wool related makers and artisans in the wider region of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. If you are interested in getting involved with either the archive or craft aspect of the project, please contact us. |
