2018 Program of Advanced Knitting Workshops with Mavis Clark  

Last Saturday of the month, except December & May.(no workshop in December & May workshop is on 19th)
​10am - 3.30pm at Cheviot Centre Wooler
First workshop Sat 27th January 2018

​This monthly program of one day workshops is aimed at experienced knitters who wish to learn the advanced knitting skills of Shetland cobweb lace, 2-ply lace, Fair Isle, Ganseys (traditional fisherman’s sweaters) and other forms of traditional knitting. Mavis Clark will guide you through your own project/s and you are free to attend one, several, or all of the workshops. Places are limited and so booking is essential.

Come and learn some new ways to cast on & off. Build a repertoire of methods to suit all projects including:
  • stretchy and not-so-stretchy ways
  • casting on and off in rib
  • multicoloured and decorative edgings
  • provisional cast ons
  • grafting

  • yarn and a folder to start your own swatch book
  • written instructions and tuition

Please bring with you size 4mm knitting needles.

Steeking with Donna Smith's      Baa-ble Mug Cosy

​Come and learn how to use steeking in your colourwork knitting. During the class will use swatches to explore the basic steeking technique that you will need to make Donna Smith’s fun Baa-ble mug cosy. There will be time in the class to start the mug cosy which you will be able to take home to finish.
The cost includes:
  • yarn and pattern to make a simple colourwork swatch that includes a steek
  • printout, Ravelry download and mini-hanks of yarn for you to make Donna Smith’s Baa-ble mug cosy at home.
  • light refreshments during the session and a buffet lunch
Please bring with you either a set of 3mm DPNs or long (80cm minimum) 3mm circular needle for magic loop or a 3mm mini circular needle (e.g. a 25cm Addi Sockwonder).
Suitable for knitters already comfortable with basic knitting skills.
